pre-mix checklist

Here are a few specifics to check off prior to printing stems

-Name your tracks!

-Are noises, clicks, pops, etc. edited out?

-Are the vocals tuned how you want them?

-Are vocal breaths and sibilance edited how you want?

-Are you happy with the vocal fx, the verbs, delays, choruses, etc. (or lack thereof)? Is it achieving the vibe you want?

-When and doubt, print reverbs, delays, and anything else, how you have them. If I need something without FX on it, I will ask for it. Ideally reverbs and delays for vocals will be on aux tracks that are printed 100% wet, but if they are on the actual audio tracks then leave them there to start.

-Give me every single track individually, not just a drum bus or guitar bus.

-For best results please take off all plugins on mixbus and level check that nothing is clipping prior to printing stems.  Please screenshot every plugin on the mixbus in the order they were and add to the stem folder so I can apply what I need to to preserve what we want from the premix.

-Print me your final premix and include with the stems. What has the artist, the team behind the artist, the label, the producer, etc been listening to and have approved prior to going to mix? That’s my starting reference point and I want a copy of that.

-If you want to send your final premix session with stems that can sometimes be helpful, as I can re-print a stem how I want if needed or look at the mixbus this way. But stems are a must have.

-Print stems at whatever sample rate and bit depth the premix session is at. Don’t do any up or down conversion.

-Please label the stem folder with sample rate, bit depth, and bpm information.
